Panjabi Sahitya Akademy

Panjabi Sahitya Akademi is a representative organization of 1250 Panjabi writers, scholars and Men of Letters settled all over India and abroad. It has been working relentlessly for the advancement of Punjabi language, literature and culture since its inception in 1954. Its membership is open to all writers and scholars who subscribe to its Aims & Objective. Punjabi Bhawan Standing majestically in an area of 10,000 sq. yards which was gifted by the Punjab Government is the building complex of the Punjabi Bhawan Ludhiana. Foundation Stone of the Akademi was laid by the great philosopher-educationist President of India Dr.S Radhakrishnan on 2nd July, 1966 Presidents The Akademi is fortunate in having great writers, scholars, visionaries and able administrators such as Dr. Bhai Jodh Singh (1954-70), Dr. M.S Randhawa (1971-86), Prof. Pritam Singh (1986-88), Dr. Giani Lal Singh (1988-90), Dr. S.S Johl (1990-96), Shri Amrik Singh Pooni (1996-2002) at the helm of affairs. At present renowned poet of international acclaim Dr.Surjit Patar heads the organisation, he is helped by a team of able and dedicated colleagues. General Secretaries As per its Constitution General Secretary is the Administrative Officer of the Akademi. The founder General Secretary Dr. Sher Singh with his great vision and selfless service set the tone. His successors - Dr. Piar Singh, Dr. Parminder Singh (his being the longest tenure), Prof. Mohan Singh, Prof. M.S Cheema, Principal Surjit Singh Bhatia and Principal Prem Singh Bajaj held aloft the banner taking the Akademi to new heights , Prof. Ravinder Bhattal a seasoned Punjabi poet is the present General Secretary.
